St. Philip on-the-hill (SPOTH) is a warm, diverse and welcoming Anglican church located in Unionville, Ontario. We have a joyful, traditional Anglican worship service on Sunday mornings using contemporary language with choir-led singing that is live-streamed. There is also an active Sunday School program for our youth that runs year-round and a Sunday evening Young Adult gathering running September to June. Programs offered at SPOTH include a vibrant children’s drama program, three small group Bible studies as well as two youth groups that meet weekly. We are looking for a Christian Education Minister that focuses not only on our youth ministries but also adult education and spiritual formation.

Objective: The Christian Education Minister is responsible for enhancing existing programs and developing new ones for all age groups in the SPOTH community. They recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and staff while actively engaging in all areas of the congregation’s education and formation. The goal is to create an environment that supports a continually growing relationship with Christ for both youth and adult congregants.

Specific Examples of Duties:

  • Coordinating and leading Sunday school programs for children and youth.
  • Leading an adult small group and providing support for the others.
  • Resourcing, organizing and leading Vacation Bible School.
  • Supporting the Musical Theatre Camp.
  • Providing leadership for youth groups and activities.
  • Supporting and equipping parents in their role as primary faith trainers.
  • Developing and managing the Christian education budget, with oversight from the Churchwardens.

Qualifications:

  • Lay professional with a strong focus on education and formation ministries.
  • Commitment to Christ-centered spiritual development with a specific passion for the spiritual growth of youth and young adults.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or equivalent education / experience.
  • 3+ years of experience with Christian Education programs, optimally in a liturgical tradition.
  • Knowledge of current resources and models for Christian Education.
  • Solid people skills, including being personable, outgoing, community-oriented, and having a positive outlook.
  • Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage volunteers effectively.
  • Computer literate with the ability to use and maintain social media accounts (e.g. Facebook, Instagram).
  • Knowledge of the Anglican tradition is helpful, though training is available.

Compensation: Hours are flexible, salary to be negotiated in view of experience.
