Diocesan Youth Ministry Coordinator (2 positions available), Diocese of Toronto

The Opportunity

The Anglican Diocese of Toronto has a current vacancy for two (2) Diocesan Youth Ministry Coordinators (part time, 8 hours/week) – to work in either the North or South Archdeaconry. Reporting to the Suffragan Bishop, the Youth Ministry Coordinator is responsible for organizing appropriate networks for professional and youth leaders in their respective areas and to increase communication throughout the Archdeaconry and across the Diocese.

We are looking for vibrant Christians who are committed to nurturing and expanding youth ministry, in order that more young people can grow as disciples of Jesus. The Youth Coordinators will engage and equip youth ministry leaders to continue to nurture faith formation in their parishes and communities. The Coordinators will maintain communication with churches to support and animate youth ministry and will seek innovative ways to enhance connections. They will also be an active member of the Bishop’s Youth Ministry Committee, which plans youth events and promotes youth ministry in the Diocese.

Major Responsibilities:

• Engage and equip youth ministry leaders to continue to nurture the faith formation of youth in their parishes and communities and to find ways to strengthen youth ministry.
•   Encourage young people to develop as disciples in Christ and leaders in our Church.
• Visit parishes to support and equip their ministry with children, youth and families.
• Support parishes in recruiting volunteer or paid youth ministry leaders and potential leaders. Promote parish positions.
• Foster intercultural, anti-racist, trauma-informed youth ministry practices across your Archdeaconry.
• Develop, nurture, maintain, and expand communication with parishes and youth ministry leaders.
• Organize appropriate networks for professional and volunteer youth leaders. Assist the networks to plan annual events and activities.
• Use technology to connect youth leaders with each other, and to communicate and inform them about upcoming events.
• Liaise with Deaneries and Archdeaconries on relevant events.
• Encourage and support leaders through events where leaders can share experiences, successes, and resources.
• Be an active member of the Bishop’s Youth Ministry Committee which plans youth events and promotes and advocates for youth ministry in the Diocese.
• Prepare quarterly and yearly progress reports for the College of Bishops.
• Promote Diocesan policies and procedures under the Responsible Ministry: Screening in Faith policy.
• Identify and develop new leaders by connecting them to the Diocesan Youth Ministry Apprenticeship Program (YMAP).

• 3-5 years of youth ministry experience or equivalent lived experience in community, cultural or grassroots ministry, including proven successful experience working with youth in a Christian setting.
• Knowledge of or a willingness to become familiar with the processes, structures, norms, values, policies and relevant Canons of the Diocese and Anglican Church of Canada, and to gain extensive knowledge of the Archdeaconry (including deanery breakdowns, ethnic and multi-cultural parishes, and general demographics).
• Basic understanding of the ethos and worship practices of the Anglican Church of Canada.
• A mature, vibrant personal Christian faith and the ability to articulate that faith in compelling ways.
• A passion for youth ministry and for growing this ministry in the Diocese.
• Ability to relate to children, youth, their families, and parish leadership.
• Demonstrated commitment to equity, anti-racism, intercultural ministry and reconciliation.
• Ability to foster an environment which is safe for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth.
• Strong skills and experience in facilitating groups and event planning.
• Good time management and project management skills.
• Good skills and experience in outreach.
• Ability to promote work through social networking media and connect with youth in age appropriate mediums.
• Excellent communication, both verbal and written.
• Strong interpersonal and listening skills.
• Excellent collaborative skills and ability to work in a team, and the ability to build and maintain relationships.
• Demonstrates a strong level of accountability, innovation and commitment to best practices, adaptability and flexibility.
• Ability to show good judgement and maintain confidentiality.  Awareness of the boundaries of the position is essential.
• Ability to take initiative, work independently with minimal supervision, and take direction.
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development and to ongoing spiritual growth.
• Theological training is an asset, ideally with a focus on Christian youth ministry.

The hiring range for this position is $12,388 -$13,938 (based on 8 hours/week), with the ability to progress to a maximum of $15,486.
