Atlantic School of Theology (AST) is inviting applications for a full-time tenure-track position in pastoral theology and contextual education. Applicants should have an interest in the emerging needs of the church. This appointment includes overseeing AST’s advances in contextual education, one that blends distance and residentially based students. The contextual education program at AST coordinates the placement of students in parish, congregational, and ministerial sites. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with students, supervisors, and ministry site placements.

It is expected that candidates will be in good standing with their own denomination. Candidates will have an appreciation of the challenges facing both the church and theological education. Candidates must be prepared to teach and participate in AST’s ecumenical environment, with particular awareness of our founding parties: the United Church of Canada, the Anglican Church of Canada, and the Roman Catholic Church. Students come to AST from a variety of spiritual traditions, but familiarity with one of our founding denominations will be an asset. The successful candidate will evidence capacity and promise as both teacher and researcher.

Applicants to this position should have a strong competence and ability to teach and do research in at least one of the following areas, with clear potential for crossover in another:

  • Supervised field education/contextual education
  • Liturgy, worship, preaching
  • Pastoral and spiritual care
  • Leadership studies and social analysis
  • Qualitative research methods
  • Ecumenism
  • Inter-religious/interfaith dialogue
  • Advances in technology and ministry
