Incumbent: St. John the Baptist, Duncan, and St. Michael and All Angels, Chemainus

Website Diocese of Islands and Inlets

The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of British Columbia seeks a full-time incumbent for the parishes of St. John the Baptist, Duncan, and St. Michael and All Angels, Chemainus.

BACKGROUND

The Diocese of Islands & Inlets is an equitable employer that operates on Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands and the Broughton Archipelago. As an institution we acknowledge the Coast Salish, Nuu-chah-nulth, and Kwakwaka’wakw nations whose relationship with these lands and waters is ongoing. We acknowledge our role in the historic dispossession of land, language, and culture, and are committed to being a part a reconciliatory path forward. We are a regional expression of the Anglican Church of Canada, part of the worldwide Anglican Communion. We are a progressive church where seekers are welcome to receive communion, baptism, marriage, and ordination on an equal basis.

OUR MINISTRY

St. John the Baptist, Duncan, and St. Michael and All Angels, Chemainus are two parishes in historic downtown areas in the beautiful Cowichan Valley of southern Vancouver Island. Average Sunday attendance is around 100 people between the two congregations. St. Michael and All Angels, located steps from the ocean, describes itself as ‘an historic, peaceful and kind small parish situated in the heart of picturesque Chemainus on the southern part of Vancouver Island’. St. John the Baptist is ‘a community seeking to love God with all of our hearts, bodies, minds and souls, and to love our neighbours as ourselves… a community seeking to witness to the glory of God in our daily living.’

Both congregations are centred around the Eucharist celebrated through Anglican liturgy and are active in living out their faith in the broader community. They look for a rector who will bring strong leadership skills, commitment to meaningful worship, and Biblical knowledge and insight that will encourage the parish to serve as a sanctuary to those seeking the presence of Christ in their lives, and with whom they can commit to covenanting, walking together, and supporting in the shared journey.

A rectory is available in Chemainus if the successful applicant needs housing.
