Member, Ecumenical and Interfaith Advisory Committee (4-8 positions)

The Anglican Church of Canada is inviting applications from individuals interested in serving as volunteer members on a new national advisory committee. The Ecumenical and Interfaith Advisory Committee will play an active role in fostering dialogue and strengthening relationships with other Christian denominations and faith traditions.

As an advisory body to the church’s Faith, Worship and Ministry Coordinating Committee, the committee will work with national staff to help shape the Anglican Church of Canada’s frameworks for ecumenical and interfaith engagement. Members will contribute to identifying priorities, recommending projects and task forces, and helping to coordinate and advance the work of these working groups.

The committee will meet online three times each year—in January/February, May/June and September/October—with additional collaboration as needed between meetings. It will work in close collaboration with the General Synod Animator for Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations, who serves as its principal staff resource and supports the coordination and implementation of its work.

Between four and eight members will be appointed to serve six-year terms, with the possibility of renewal. The committee will bring together individuals representing diverse cultures, backgrounds, ministry experiences and theological perspectives. Applicants should be regular participants in the life of the Anglican Church of Canada, helping to ensure the committee remains grounded in the community it serves.

Appointments will be made by the Faith, Worship and Ministry Coordinating Committee in consultation with staff. Input may also be sought from church leaders, theological schools and national councils such as the Council of General Synod and the Anglican Council of Indigenous Peoples.

1. Provide your name, contact information, diocese and order of ministry (laity, deacon, priest, bishop).

2. Reflect in writing on these questions:

• What is something you treasure deeply about your experience of the Anglican Christian tradition?
• What, for your, are some of the primary scriptural and theological foundations for ecumenical and interfaith dialogue?
• Reflect on an occasion where your faith and discipleship as an Anglican has been enriched by another Christian denomination/community.
• Reflect on an occasion where your faith and discipleship as a Christian has been enriched by another spiritual/religious community other than Christian.
• What do you bring to this work from your social location and perspective in the church – particular roles or experiences in work and ministry, who you are and where you live and witness, etc.
