Are you a student with a heart for ministry and a passion for working with youth? St. Philip on-the-hill (SPOTH), a welcoming Anglican church in Unionville, is looking for a dynamic and faithful summer intern to support our youth programs.

SPOTH is a thriving Christian community in Unionville/Markham with an active children’s and youth ministry.  It is a is a warm and welcoming congregation that will support and encourage this new position through prayer and affirmation, as well as by gifting their time, treasure, and talents to assist with ministry endeavors.

As a part of an exciting ministry environment, this position will provide you with opportunities to learn and grow both as a person and as a Christian leader this summer. At SPOTH we also like to focus on the interests of our interns where possible to support their growth and development. Details regarding the position are as follows:

Job Description:

  • Lead weekly Summer Sunday School program for children in JK-GR. 8 (Varied Age Groups at times)
  • Assist with various youth group and children’s ministry events
  • Assist with planning, organization, and running of summer musical theater camp, leading electives and assisting the director
  • Researching and creating resource shares for family ministry
  • Administrative duties in the office, preparation of worship bulletins
  • Managing and posting social media content
  • Other tasks associated with the ministries of the church and church upkeep
  • Participate in special functions, festival days, summer camps, holidays, and other special events as required
  • Learning digital sign messaging and posting weekly notifications
  • Organize, prepare and record daily messages using provided materials
  • Review social media strategies and post regular church content
  • Develop marketing strategies to our local community based on demographic analysis
  • Review weekly newsletter and redesign
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Must be between the ages of 15 -30
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada
  • Must successfully clear a Police Records check and attend a Sexual Misconduct Workshop prior to the job starting
  • Previous volunteer or work experience in children/youth ministry is an asset
  • Studying in children’s/youth ministry or in child/youth work related fields is an asset

Preferred Skills, Abilities, Qualities:

  • Familiarity with Microsoft office suite of programs (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Working knowledge of programs such as Google Drive and Google Docs
  • Comfortable with social media platforms and posting content

Job Specifics:

  • 35 hours a week for 8 weeks (Sundays required)
  • $17.20 an hour
  • Start dates are flexible, but it is preferable to begin in June and be completed by the end of August.
