Territory of the People
The Cathedral Parish of St. Paul, Kamloops BC
The Right Reverend Jane Alexander, Assisting Bishop of the Territory of the People is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Curate / Assistant Priest. This is a full-time stipendiary position.
St. Paul’s Cathedral is in the heart of Kamloops Bc, which has recently been named one of the five fastest growing cities in Canada. St. Paul’s is an active and lively congregation with a strong desire to serve. Its ministries include an outreach program for young families, a soup program for the homeless, and a parish vitality ministry aimed at looking for opportunities for evangelism and church growth. The parish also runs a weekly thrift shop that is used by many people in the community. A strong emphasis within the Cathedral is the ministry of the laity.
As a congregation, the Cathedral has a good mix of age ranges. A few young children make up our Sunday school, and it is hoped to re-establish a once vibrant youth group. The Cathedral also attracts several students from the Thompson Rivers University. The congregation prides itself on being an inclusive congregation in all respects. The Cathedral is made up of parishioners from a variety of ages, ethnicities, and orientations.
St. Paul’s is on the cusp of many exciting ministry opportunities. A new multi-tower condo complex is being built next door, which will attract new families to the immediate vicinity. Additionally, there is enthusiasm to re-start many of the ministries that have been dormant during the time of pandemic. The installation of a new dean has brought enthusiasm and vibrancy to the Cathedral, and all are excited about the future.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Cathedral Dean in all areas of Cathedral life and ministry, particularly in the area of pastoral care. He or she will take an active role in leadership during those times when the Dean is called away in the Territory. The successful candidate will be forward looking, energetic, an encouraging, and be comfortable working in a team environment.
