Job Posting: Half-Time Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministry at Christ Church

Position: Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministry (Half-Time)
Location: The Anglican Parish of Christ Church Elbow Park (Calgary, Alberta)

Start Date: March 1, 2025 (negotiable)

Christ Church is seeking a passionate and creative individual to serve as the Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministry. This half-time position offers an exciting opportunity to lead and grow our ministry programs for children, youth, and families, and play a key role in nurturing the spiritual formation of the next generation.

Christ Church is a progressive parish that is deeply rooted in the Anglican tradition and embedded in our neighbourhood where we have worshipped and served for over 100 years. We are a welcoming, lively community committed to following Christ in our time. In the spirit of Calgary entrepreneurialism, we are not afraid to take risks and try new things. A mixed ecology of church is the way of the future, holding together traditional ways of being church and exploring creative ways to reach those beyond our doors with the good news of God’s love.

Christ Church is home to a dedicated group of parishioners, including an energetic staff and a talented and committed group of lay leaders who work collaboratively to serve our congregation. Our family ministry serves approximately 50 children and youth ranging from newborns to 17 years old. On an average Sunday, we have 16 children participating in Sunday school and nursery, with more young families and youth regularly becoming part of our community. The person who joins our team will have the exciting opportunity to shape this ministry in creative and compelling ways.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Children’s Ministry: Oversee and develop programming for children (ages 0-12), including Sunday school, special events, and family activities.
  • Youth Ministry: Lead programs for middle and high school students.
  • Family Ministry: Provide resources and support for parents and families to engage in faith development at home.
  • Volunteer Management: Recruit, train, and support volunteers to assist in various children and youth ministry programs, and empower willing volunteers to take on leadership responsibilities within family ministries.
  • Spiritual Development: Foster an environment where children, youth, and families can grow in their faith and build meaningful relationships with God and each other.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other ministry leaders and staff to integrate family ministries into the whole life of the church.

Qualifications:

  • A deep and growing faith in Jesus Christ, with a passion for nurturing the spiritual development of children, youth, and families.
  • Experience working in children’s, youth, or family ministry, ideally in a church setting.
  • Experience coordinating, equipping, and empowering a team of volunteers.
  • Proven organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple programs and projects.
  • An ability to engage children, youth, parents, and volunteers.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A degree in theology, education, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
  • Clean Police Check with Vulnerable Sector Search & CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Flexibility in hours, including some evenings and weekends for ministry events.
