OPEN LETTER TO OUR FUTURE RECTOR

Welcome to the Anglican Parish of St. Alban’s Dartmouth!

Our parish is often described by parishioners as a warm and welcoming community that values inclusion, fellowship and supporting each other and those in need.  While we are a small congregation, we are deeply committed to outreach and actively engage in programs that serve those in need within in our community.  We embrace new ideas for worship and innovative ways to extend our reach.  Throughout this document, you will find details on the various initiatives through which we are already making a positive impact.

Our Parochial Committee has prepared this Parish Profile to provide a snapshot of our faithful parish and vibrant community. Our property is only a short walk from the ocean, beautiful trails, downtown Halifax, and more, we’re looking forward to our next Rector seeing why we love it here.

The Rector We Seek

We are seeking a priest-colleague who will lead us in sacramental worship and work with us in expanding our outreach to the folks in need in the Woodside area, in our Dartmouth Region, and within our Diocese. We are also seeking a priest who:

  • Shows interest in our parish.
  • Possesses strong leadership skills and is a motivator.
  • Is interested in making the Parish grow and has creative skills to help us achieve that goal.
  • Is inclusive of the varied cultures and lifestyles of individuals in our neighbourhood.
  • Is friendly, approachable with excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Great time management skills.
  • Has a solid Christian approach to life.
  • Balances modern thinking combined with traditional views.

This is a 50% part-time position.  The following are commitments that come with the position.  The following responsibilities are important to St. Alban’s and the time spent on each is negotiable with the wardens.

  • Sunday service plus special occasions such as Christmas, Easter, Holy Week, etc.;
  • Pastoral visiting;
  • Open Door every second week, September through June;
  • Meetings such as Parish Council with the option of attending Finance;
  • Congregational letters;
  • Regional Council (4 times per year), Clericus (monthly), Synod;
  • Participation in Baptisms, Confirmations, Weddings and Funerals as needed;
  • One and a half days inclusive of Sundays.
